Born into a Nung ethnic family in Lung Vai, Muong Khuong, the highland culture has been the inspiration and motivation for Van Huong Hu’s artistic endeavours. Van Huong’s works are inspired by his childhood, and the customs and habits of the ethnic minorities. Van Huong Hu graduated from Vietnam Fine Arts University in 2020 and is the youngest artist to exhibit works in the Four Seasons collection. Using lacquer, By the Mountain Field depicts the rice harvest in the summer near the artist’s house. In the foreground on the left is a girl sitting, wearing a modernised H’Mong costume. With a distant look in her eye, is she ruminating about something, or is she waiting for her parents to come back from the field?
