Nhu Y Nguyen (Hanoi, b. 1970)
Nhu Y Nguyen is an alumnus of the Vietnam University of Fine Art, known in the art world as “The mad Y”. He currently resides in Ung Hoa, Soc Son, Hanoi. Women, romantic love and family love are usually the main themes in his artworks. Home reuses two wooden beams of an old house. Nhu Y chiselled them into the representation of two roofs; though crooked and angular, they form a solid support structure when standing together. The work symbolises a home, with the willingness to embrace and protect even the most uncertain souls. The wild, primitive visual features of Nhu Y’s art are filled with the desire to be loved and the hope for a stable and happy family. Home is an example of pure instinctive art, peculiar but rustic and sincere just like Nhu Y himself.
